The Mansions, Wimbledon

The Mansions, Wimbledon is a magnificent collection of apartments which sit amid glorious green parkland, in one of the most desirable areas of south west London. These stunning homes offer residents’ a slower pace of life, surrounded by nature and lots of space, with central London still close by.’

When my family and I we were invited by Berkeley to tour The Mansions, I jumped at the chance. Our lockdown weekend walks to Wimbledon Village have taken us past The Mansions many times and I’ve always wondered whether they are as luxurious on the inside as they appear from the outside!

Must-haves

But we have fairly tough criteria when it comes to properties we would consider living in. As a family of four currently living in a fairly large family house with a garden near to a great school, parkland and public transport, we know what is most important to us and that is:

  • close proximity to schools with current good or outstanding Ofsted ratings;
  • enough family friendly space, with a minimum of three bedrooms, a large, fully equipped kitchen and a separate utility area;
  • close access to green spaces and playgrounds;
  • private parking on site and public transport within walking distance.

Location

The location of the The Mansions is pretty hard to beat, especially for families. In addition to being directly adjacent to Morely Park, it is also close to Cottenham Park, Wimbledon Common and Cannizaro Park. It is within 1.5 miles from seven of the best primary schools in the area and five secondary schools and colleges. So you are spoiled for choice!

The Mansions are a short walk or drive to Wimbledon Village with its plethora of charming shops, bars and cafes. For those tennis lovers, it is also nearby to the All England Lawn Tennis Club, best known as the venue for the Wimbledon Championships. Raynes Park Railway Station is within walking distance. From there you can catch a train into Waterloo Station within 23 minutes. That means you could be rambling on the Common in the afternoon and out on the town in London in the evening!

The property

We approached The Mansions via a woodsy pedestrian path past the playground and made our way to the Marketing Suite. Shelley, one of the Berkeley sales consultants, warmly welcomed us and gave us an overview of the property and the surrounding area. She explained that The Mansions are comprised of five apartment buildings, set around a central courtyard. All the buildings are in keeping with the Georgian architecture, typical of the local area.

Shelley showed us an intricate to-scale model of the property to give us a better understanding of the site plan (and which also kept the kids entertained while we talked!) We were pleased to hear that The Mansions were designed with the environment and sustainability in mind. There are features in place both to increase energy efficiency and to reduce its environmental impact. The Mansions also boasts an impressive range of resident facilities. These include private underground parking, a fully equipped private gym, a private cinema and an outdoor playground.

The apartments

We began our tour and made our way to the show apartments which literally took my breath away. The décor is stunning and modern and the floorplan is practical and well thought out. But my favourite part is the view. Out of the dual aspect, enormous windows, there are trees everywhere you look! Shelley told us that every apartment in The Mansions benefits from the views of either parkland or the courtyard, a definite plus in my book.

The layout of each of the three bedroom apartments we viewed is modern, practical and well designed for family life. With a large, fully equipped open plan kitchen and living/ dining area, the rooms feel bright and cheerful with plenty of natural light.

The master bedrooms include a walk-in dressing room and large ensuite bathroom. In addition, there is a second ensuite bedroom,  a third smaller bedroom and a modest, but beautifully presented cloakroom. Each apartment also has a utility cupboard to house the washer and dryer and provide storage.

The interior designer in me was super impressed with the finishing touches in the apartments.The beautiful and on-trend rose gold taps and trim is a signature feature in The Mansions.

The residents’ facilities

After touring the show apartments, we headed over to Henrietta House to see the gym and the cinema. We entered a via a luxurious reception area and were greeted by a friendly concierge. The private gym is fully equipped and very convenient. The cinema room, with its large screen and squishy sofas was cosy, comfortable and every kid’s dream come true!

Conclusion

In conclusion, I am impressed. All our must-have boxes are ticked, customer service is fantastic and the location is unbeatable! The Mansions would definitely be a serious contender if I was new to the area, looking for an upgrade or just starting out family life. With some of the best schools, Wimbledon Village and so much green space right on the doorstep, it really couldn’t be better placed to enjoy that city meets country life that Wimbledon does so well.
