A brand new weekly farmers’ market has opened in Wimbledon and my family couldn’t be more excited! Starting today the market will be on every Sunday from 10am-3pm and features loads of fresh produce, baked good, flowers, books, jewellery, food stalls and more!
We arrived around 12.30 and the market was in full swing! There was a face painting stall (which we later found out was free!) as soon as we entered and a live band playing some great tunes. As I looked around I saw familiar faces from school, from the gym, from Instagram; everyone just living the Wimbledon life!
It was a perfect day for the market’s launch as it was unseasonably warm and sunny and the atmosphere was quite exciting; It almost felt more like a festival than a market and it will be interesting to see whether that feeling carries on over the coming weeks.
We spent quite a bit of time greeting our friends and neighbours (I even bumped into my new friend Sandra Strachan, better known as Lady Wimbledon!), and then had a look at each of the market stalls. We had some lunch – Hugo and Isla shared a sausage sandwich from Giggly Pig and Chris and I went for Rainforest Creations. I had the lentil burger roti and he had the lentil burger box and both were wonderful. The colours and textures were amazing and the spicy sauce and curried hummus style spread made it particularly special.
After we finished our lunch, we made our way around to the rest of the stalls and bought our dinner for tonight in the form of gorgeous, glossy fresh mackerel from the Portland Scallop Co and some organic veg from Riverdale Organic Farm. We couldn’t pass up some fudge so we shared a small piece of the chocolate and raspberry from Fi’s Fudge and it was sweet, melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness!
The whole afternoon Hugo had been begging to have his face painted, so he queued with his daddy and sister while I bought an enormous bouquet of sunflowers from Wild Moes. Then we all watched as Hugo was transformed in mere minutes from a little boy into a scary (but super cute) tiger!
Keep up the good work The Chase Market, Wimbledon Mummy & Family will be seeing you again soon!
