Last night’s Thanksgiving dinner was a triumph (if I do say so myself!). So to help take the guesswork out of your Christmas dinner planning, I would love to recommend and share the delicious recipes I cooked from BBC goodfood and my own apple tart recipe. From smoky turkey to sizzled sprouts to savoury stuffing, read on for a foolproof Christmas meal plan!
For smaller parties, this simple turkey crown is perfect, although the smoky spice rub can also be used on a full turkey to feed a larger crowd! I didn’t smoke the turkey as I didn’t have time but found that it didn’t need it -the smoked paprika provided a comforting warm, smoky flavour.
The combination of stir fried green sprouts and pistachios with bright red pomegranate seeds gave an appearance of jewels on the plate and got top marks from my guests! Even if you think you don’t like sprouts, try these – these have a mild flavour and retain their crunch – very far removed from the soggy, tasteless sprouts you dreaded during childhood!
With its garlic, fennel seeds, chilli and sausage, this stuffing packed a big flavour punch! You could make your own sausage to avoid any nasty chemicals, or replace the sausage with mushrooms, if desired.
This quick cranberry sauce takes minutes to make and has a perfect balance of sweet and tart. The recipe calls for port but I used Madeira which added a deliciously unexpected depth of flavour!
With its delicate petals of apple, this tart is beautifully elegant but is so simple to make, it will become your go-to Thanksgiving and Christmas dessert!
